The Bethel Fire Department takes pride in serving our community. Every day, your first responders answer the call. Whether your incident is a structure fire, heart attack, or even a low battery beep on a smoke alarm, we will be there. The department is committed to increasing its involvement within the community.

 

In 2023, the Bethel Fire Department responded to 161 Fire and 1,432 Emergency Medical incidents.

 

The department instructed and/or hosted the following training:

  • State of Alaska Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-1)
  • MARSARS Surface Ice Rescue (USCG)
  • National Fire Academy - Fire Investigation for First Responders
  • MSA Certified Air Mask Repair (CARE) Technician 
  • AK-DOT ARFF Water Supply Mutual Aid Training
  • National Fire Academy - Preparation for Initial Company Operations
  • National Fire Academy - Decision-Making for Initial Company Operations
  • State of Alaska Fire and Emergency Services Instructor - 1 (FESI-1)
  • Draeger Burn Room Manager Course
  • Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Training
  • Firefighter and EMT Meetings (Continuing Education Training)

 

The department received the following vehicles and equipment:

  • Engine-5, 2023 Pierce Enforcer Class-A Pumper
  • Draeger Swede Survival Phase II Firefighter Skills Training System
  • MARSARS Ice/Water Rescue System

 

The department conducted various fire prevention activities throughout the year:

  • Alaska Fire Prevention Month and NFPA Fire Prevention Week Classes (Approx. 500 children, Grades Pre-K through 4th)
  • Instructed multiple fire and life safety education classes for foster care and adoptive parents
  • Installed multiple smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
  • Multiple individuals borrowed chimney brushes to clean their chimneys
  • Multiple nuisance and hazard abatements on several dilapidated properties
